A. Scholten, St. Louis, Mo." Listed as K-113 in 'Custer in Photographs' by D. Mark Katz. In fine condition.
In January 1872, Gen. George Custer assisted in guiding a lavish buffalo hunt in Nebraska for Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich of Russia, featuring William F. 'Buffalo Bill' Cody and Lakota chief Spotted Tail as members of the party. In conjunction with the expedition, Custer and the Duke traveled to St. Louis, where they posed for portraits by photographer James A. Scholten in their hunting attire.
