Superior signed CDV of George A. Custer, captured circa 1865 by "Alex. Gardner, Photographer of the Army of the Potomac"

Sought-after 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of George A. Custer in his familiar cavalry uniform and wide-brimmed hat, neatly signed in ink by the subject, "Yours truly, G. A. Custer, Bt Maj. Genl., U.S.A." The reverse bears the backstamp of "Alex. Gardner, Photographer of the Army of the Potomac," with a small image of the United States Capitol. In fine condition, with unobtrusive surface loss to reverse.
