Description

British general (1833–1885) who, in 1860, crushed the Taiping Rebellion in China, earning the nickname 'Chinese.' LS in Arabic, signed “C. G. Gordon,” one page, 8.25 x 10.5, March 1, 1878. Letter to A. Janson, in part (translated): "As I informed you before, you have been appointed Director of the Soudan Railway according to His Highness's orders. Therefore please see to and arrange about some place where the necessary money can be drawn from. Please also to attend to and manage all affairs relating to that Railway, and see about the funds that will be required from the Finance Office of the Soudan." A manuscript translation to English is penned below. In fine condition.
