Pope from 1513 until his death in 1521, known as a patron of art and literature; in 1517, he was the primary target of Martin Luther and his publication of the 95 theses against the sale of indulgences. Impressive vellum manuscript DS in Latin, one page, 18.25 x 12.75, 1515. Untranslated papal indulgence headed “Beatissime Pater [Most Blessed Father],” illuminated with pen-flourished borders and rubricated text, and issued on behalf of Pope Leo X (“Papa Leo Decximo”), who has signed below. In very good to fine condition, with a small area of loss at the intersection of folds, affecting a few words of text.
