Hardcover edition of Speeches by Oliver Wendell Holmes, published by Little, Brown and Company in 1900, containing two affixed autographs of the Supreme Court justice: an ALS signed "O. W. Holmes," one page both sides, 5 x 8, Supreme Court of the United States letterhead, December 16, 1908. Handwritten letter to "Martin," in small part: "I have got your charming book…I owned a copy of a little book of speeches to be sent to you that contains some of my ways of looking at things." Affixed to the first free end page is a handwritten note in pencil by Holmes, "I am very glad to have had a glimpse of you. I am going on rather a long drive as I want my secretary to see some things in Rockport," annotated below in another hand with his name and the date, July 15, 1931. In very good to fine condition, with bumped corners, rubbing and soiling to boards, and edgewear (especially to the spine).
