In the U.S., the 2002 Winter Olympics were broadcast on NBC-owned networks as the first Winter Games covered under NBC’s long-term rights deal with the IOC, which granted exclusive U.S. broadcast rights for all Olympics from 1996–2008 (except 1998, which CBS still held). NBC also partnered with HDNet to produce eight hours of daily high-definition coverage, aired on HDNet and participating NBC affiliates’ digital channels.
