Two TLSs from Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, both signed as president:
The Nixon letter, signed “RN,” one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, August 5, 1950, sent to California Senator George Murphy: “On July 20, S. 1519, a bill to establish a National Commission on Libraries and Information Science, came to my desk for signature. I am aware of your keen interest in the creation of such a commission. For this reason, I am pleased to send you the enclosed pen as a memento of this bill becoming public law.”
The Ford letter, signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 7 x 10.5, White House letterhead, February 24, 1976, sent to longtime Florida Congressman Bill Young: “I appreciate the upbeat tone of your February 17 letter regarding my trip to the 6th District and other areas of your great State. The reception I received was extremely encouraging. To me it was an indication of the interest of the people in their government, and a reflection of approval of my Administration's efforts their behalf. My plans for a return to Florida this weekend have been completed, and I am looking forward to meeting many new people. The personal appearance of the candidate is essential, but it is friends like you who spark the campaign. I want to express my special thanks to you for your loyalty and dedication. I am confident that on March 9 the voters will register solid support for our programs.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelopes.
