Description

American businessman, investor, and philanthropist (1924–2023) who was vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffett described Munger as his closest partner and right-hand man, and credited him with being the ‘architect’ of modern Berkshire Hathaway's business philosophy. Stock certificate for 100 shares in the Maracaibo Oil Exploration Corporation issued to noted businessman Charles Munger, one page, 11.5 x 7.5, January 28, 1964, featuring facsimile signatures of Alfred J. Williams as president and John P. Reed as treasurer. In fine condition.

The Maracaibo Oil Exploration Company was organized in 1919 with a capital of 250,000 shares without nominal or par value, conforming with the statutory regulations of Venezuela. The company divided its original concessions among four companies, of which it owned all the shares: Mara Exploration Co., Miranda Exploration Co., Paez Exploration Co., and Perija Exploration Co. The holdings of these companies, totaling 750,000 acres, were all in the Lake Maracaibo basin. Later, the stock of two other companies was acquired — the Sucre Exploration Co. and the Urdaneta Exploration Co. — which added over 275,000 acres. The company is noted for its association with Warren Buffett, who was an investor in the firm during the early phase of his career.
