Scarce uncut sheet of four large-size obsolete banknotes from 1857, issued by the Western Exchange Fire & Marine Insurance Company of Omaha, Nebraska, for the Swedish-American colony of Bishop Hill in Illinois, 8.5 x 13.75, each numbered 2511, containing one-dollar, two-dollar, three-dollar, and five-dollar notes, each featuring unique vignettes to the center and sides. The notes served as ‘certificates of deposit’ for colony funds, and the settlement dissolved after the banking company failed during the financial Panic of 1857. In fine condition.
