Carbonaceous chondrite (CVox3)
192 mm x 146 mm x 2 mm
103 grams
The NWA 16811 meteorite was discovered in 2024 in the Sahara Desert. It was subsequently classified as a CVox3 meteorite with a weight of 11.2 kg in a single stone. Chondrules together with calcium aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) can be seen in its matrix . CAIs are the oldest-known solid materials in the Solar System, formed by the condensation of elements from the hot, turbulent nebular gas disk surrounding the young Sun. They also provide the oldest radiometric ages for solids, establishing the age of the Solar System at approximately 4.568 billion years. In this slice, both chondrules and CAIs are featured, making it a true time-capsule of the beginning of the Solar System.
