Apollo 15 – Stapled 21-page lunar map packet produced by the U.S.G.S. Center of Astrogeology entitled “Hadley-Apennine Landing Site, Apollo 15 – 1:12,500 and 1:25,000, Geologic Map Explanation,” which contains 20 lunar map images, 8 x 10.5 and 10.5 x 8, showing tracks made by the Apollo 15 astronauts during their three EVAs across the Hadley-Rille region.
Apollo 16 – Official NASA manual entitled ‘Apollo 16, Final, Lunar Surfaces Procedures,’ dated March 16, 1972, 457 pages, 9 x 10.5, which contains five sections – Introduction, Mission Description, Nominal Lunar Surface EVA, Contingent Plans, and Appendix – and an abundance of figures and tables relative to the mission’s three EVAs. Also included is the NASA manual ‘Lunar Roving Vehicle, Payload Handbook, Apollo 16’ (MSC-04798, Revision B), February 18, 1972, 35 pages, which contains numerous artistic figures of the LRV and its various compartments and components. Both are housed together in a three-ring binder, which also includes an “Apollo Mission Briefs” booklet from February 1972, and an “Apollo 16 Mission Events” table. Accompanying the binder and manuals is a group of seven glossy photos of Apollo 16 EVAs, 5 x 4 and 5.75 x 4.25, which includes five pictures of John Young driving the LRV.
Apollo 17 – Official NASA manual entitled ‘Apollo 17, Final, Lunar Surfaces Procedures, Vol. 1: Nominal Plans’ dated November 6, 1972, 312 pages, 8 x 10.5, which contains four sections – Introduction, Mission Description, Nominal Lunar Surface EVA, and Appendix – and an abundance of figures and tables relative to the mission’s three EVAs; the manual also contains the special supplement, ‘Flight Data File Traverse Maps,’ and a 23-page packet entitled ‘LRV Operations Support Data Manual,’ which places emphasis on malfunctions and corrective measures. Also included is the NASA manual ‘Lunar Roving Vehicle Systems Handbook, Apollo 16, LRV-2,” January 6, 1972, with nine sections – Introduction, General Information, Structure, Mobility, Crew Station, Electrical Power, Navigation, Lunar Science Equipment, and Lunar Module Interface – each section of which contains figures and fold-out diagrams. Both are housed in a three-ring binder. The manuals contain some pencil notations.
Also included is an ‘Apollo Mission Briefs’ booklet from November 1972, a group of 10 early glossy NASA photos of the LRV during initial testing at the Boeing plant in Kent, Washington, and a three-ring binder containing five sections related to the EVAs of the Apollo 17 LRV, such as ‘Operations,’ ‘Performance Data,’ ‘Traverse Data,’ ‘Mission Rules,’ and ‘Mission Timelines.’ The ‘Mission Rules’ section of the binder contains a copied portion of the NASA manual ‘Final, Flight Mission Rules, Apollo 17 .” In overall fine condition, with scattered edgewear, some pages loose or torn from binder. These documents originate from the collection of Julian D. Burton, an employee of Boeing Aerospace & Electronics.
