Civil War–era Spencer Carbine, serial #42879, .52 caliber, 22" barrel with a fair bore that has mild pitting along its length. This is a Civil War model Spencer and does not have any of the post-war alterations mandated after the war’s end. The barrel, frame, and stock furniture have an overall dull plum-brown patina throughout, with some patches of darker freckling along the exposed portions of the barrel and some mild gray fading at the sides of the muzzle and some of the exposed edges and projections. The original sights are still present, however the leaf tension spring for the rear sight is now missing, and the original rimfire breechblock was replaced with a modern, commercially-made centerfire breechblock. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small handling marks and blemishes commensurate with long years of hard service on the plains, and has period tack embellishments encircling the buttplate. The action is fully functional, and the carbine comes with a single functional Spencer magazine tube.
This is an antique firearm and transfers with no federal restriction.
