Desirable first edition of the first biography of John Brown: The Public Life of Capt. John Brown by James Redpath, with an Auto-Biography of his Childhood and Youth. First edition. Boston: Thayer and Eldridge, 1860. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.75, 407 pages. Redpath chronicles the abolitionist's militant fight against slavery, culminating in his raid on Harpers Ferry. The book also includes an autobiographical section written by Brown himself, recounting his early years and formative influences.
