Scarce gold-plated competitor’s badge issued for the equestrian events of the 1956 Summer Olympics, held in Stockholm, 28 mm x 37 mm, 14 gm, depicting a classical horse and rider above Olympic rings against a red enameled background. The badge retains its original red ribbon. Marked on the reverse by the maker: "Lagerstrom, Mjolby."
The main 1956 Summer Games were held in Melbourne, Australia, but the equestrian events could not be held there due to quarantine regulations; Stockholm was chosen as the alternative site. The equestrian events began in June, nearly six months earlier than the official opening ceremonies in Melbourne.
