Scarce official English-language booklet published by the Organizing Committee of the XIIth Olympiad, 5 x 7.25, 93 pages, entitled: "XIIth Olympiad Tokyo 1940, General Rules and Programme." Complete with a fold-out map of the Olympic grounds and program in the rear. In fine condition, with torn corners to a couple of interior pages.
The 1940 Summer Olympics were initially awarded to Tokyo, Japan, which would have made it the first Asian city to host the Summer Games. Japan relinquished its hosting duties in 1938 due to the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Games were then reassigned to Helsinki, Finland, but were ultimately canceled following the outbreak of World War II.
