Scarce American ‘Military Committee’ commemorative badge issued to American athletes who participated in the London 1908 Olympics. Bronze, 40 mm x 108 mm, made by Dieges & Clust of New York. The badge consists of a bottom medallion with an embossed athlete standing in front of an American flag between two scrolls, “To Our American Athletes 1908,” a central blue ribbon with text, “In Honor of the American Plympic Athletes, New York, 1908,” and an upper plaque pin with raised text, “Military Com.” In fine condition, with a small tear to top of ribbon. The ‘welcome home’ reception committee was organized by New York Mayor George B. McClellan, Jr. An impressive and very rare badge honoring an Olympiad that extended for over six months—the longest in modern history.
