(Nickelodeon, 2000) Original production cel and master production background of SpongeBob SquarePants, Pearl Krabs, and several prom dancers from ‘The Chaperone,’ episode 12a of season one of SpongeBob SquarePants, which originally aired on March 8, 2000. The cel, which shows SpongeBob and Pearl being lifted in the air by several prom dancers after their destructive ‘Doing the Sponge’ dance routine, is placed on a wonderful hand-painted production background from the same film: a wooden dance floor and a metal wall with party streamers. Full character image measures 7.5 x 4.25, with overall dimensions of 14 x 10.75. The cel is marked as “C28,” and the background is annotated “S/B 113, BG 109A.” In fine condition. A terrific cel and background set-up from the acclaimed first season of SpongeBob SquarePants, the show’s only season to use the traditional cel animation process. Production cels and backgrounds from the ‘golden era’ of SpongeBob remain rare and highly collectible, especially examples that feature multiple characters.
