Appealing 5´ x 3´ cotton American flag that was flown over the United States Capitol on Independence Day in 1963 during the administration of President John F. Kennedy. Includes a letter from Architect of the Capitol J. George Stewart, sent to Indiana Congressman Donald C. Bruce, dated July 5, 1963, in part: "This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on July 4, 1963." In very good to fine condition, with expected wear from use and age, including fading and scattered small holes.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the daughter of the original recipient: “My father was politically active in the California Republican Party and became friends with Representative Donald C. Bruce, who was a conservative congressman from Indiana. Representative Bruce, who later founded the American Conservative Union, sent this flag to him in appreciation for his efforts in support of the party.”
