Considered the father of baseball, Cartwright (1820–1892) and his fellow New York Knickerbocker Ball Club members devised the modern rules of the game. Press copy (from the original) of an ALS written from Honolulu, on onion skin paper, signed "Al. J. Cartwright," two pages, 8.25 x 10.5, July 23, 1862. Letter from Honolulu to a friend in San Francisco pertaining to legal and business transactions. In very good to fine condition, with expected ink bleeding from the press copy process, and some ink erosion throughout the text.
