Description

From the personal collection of Apollo 14 moonwalker Edgar Mitchell—an impressive shield-shaped wooden plaque featuring a heavy bronze medallion of the insignia of the USS New Orleans (LPH-11), the prime recovery ship for Apollo 14, measuring approximately 8˝ x 10˝. An engraved plate below reads: "Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, 'Apollo 14.'" In fine condition. On February 9, 1971, following splashdown of the Apollo 14 CM 'Kitty Hawk,' the USS New Orleans picked up astronauts Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell some 900 miles south of American Samoa.




Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Karlyn Mitchell, the daughter of Edgar Mitchell.
