Description

Complete issue of The Log Cabin, a newspaper published simultaneously in New York and Albany by Horace Greeley, four pages, 15.75 x 21, September 5, 1840. The front page publishes Daniel Webster's speech at the "Saratoga Mass Meeting" of August 18th, and on the rear is printed sheet music for the campaign song "Harrison and Liberty." In fine condition, intersecting folds, light creasing, some foxing, and an ownership notation to the upper margin.

Published only from May 1840 to November 1841, Greeley established The Log Cabin to back the presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison. By the end of the campaign, the circulation had risen to 80,000, and its success inspired Greeley to establish the New York Tribune.
