Scarce commemorative medal from the Paris 1900 Exposition, the site of the 1900 Summer Olympics. Silvered bronze, 70 mm, 145 gm, by Adolphe Rivet. The front features a beautiful profile design of Marianne, the national symbol of the French Republic, surrounded by allegorical figures, clouds, a rising sun, and text (translated): “Brotherhood, Freedom, Equality”; and the reverse depicts a woman seated on a blank cartouche near raised text: “Exposition Internationale de Paris, 1900.”
