Rare original Inaugural Report folder for the presidential inauguration of John F. Kennedy, which was held at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., on January 20, 1961. Issued to Army General Lyman Lemnitzer, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the folder, 9.75 x 11.75, contains four reports related to the overwhelming success of the Kennedy inauguration, a TLS from Maj. Gen. Charles K. Gailey, dated February 21, 1961, forwarding Lemnitzer his “final report to Mr. Edward H. Foley on the Armed Forces participation in the 1961 Presidential Inauguration” and a “copy of the letter sent to me by the President of the United States expressing his personal appreciation.” The referenced Kennedy letter, with a facsimile signature, and the final 12-page report to Foley are both included, as is an 11-page “After Action Report of the Military Parade Subcommittee for the 1961 Presidential Inauguration,” a 7-page packet detailing the “Organization for Armed Forces Participation, 1961 Presidential Inauguration,” a 5-page “After Action Report of the Logistics Subcommittee for the 1961 Presidential Inauguration,” and a booklet from the ‘Office of the Grand Marshal’ for the ‘Inaugural Parade 1961.” Housed in its original leather spiral-bound folder.
