Uncommon gavel made with wood from the the platform upon which Gerald Ford took the oath of office as U. S. Vice President in 1973. The gavel measures 8.25″ in length, with the head featuring an engraved brass plaque that reads: "Vice President / Gerald R. Ford December 6, 1973." Includes a signed letter from George M. White, the Architect of the Capitol, that states: "The accompanying gavel is made of walnut wood that formed a part of the platform on which the Honorable Gerald R. Ford received the oath of office as Vice President of the United States on December 6, 1973." In fine condition.
