Description

'A Night at the Opera' stage pass signed by Queen, affixed to a 1976 tour expense book used by the band's hairdresser and wardrobe keeper

Hardcover expense book from Queen’s 1976 ‘A Night at the Opera’ tour, 6 x 9.5, the front cover of which bears an affixed ‘Stage Pass’ signed in black felt tip by the entire group: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. The book, which originates from the personal collection of Dane Clark, the group’s hairdresser and wardrobe keeper between 1976 and 1980, contains expense entries for the following dates: February 8th in New York City; February 20th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; February 23rd and 24th in Chicago, Illinois; February 27th in Indianapolis, Indiana; February 28th in Madison, Wisconsin; March 8th, various USA expenses; March 20th, various expenses from Japan; and April 6th, expenses from Perth and Sydney, Australia. The book also contains three pages detailing expenses while on tour with Elton John. In very good to fine condition, with damage to the head of the spine. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Dane Clark was a hairdresser, wardrobe keeper, and friend to several noteworthy musicians in the 1970s and early eighties. Per his grandson: ‘[Clark] got a call at the end of 1973 from a guy named ‘Breck Wall’ who got Dane an interview for the position of Elton John’s hairdresser and wardrobe keep. He was on a flight the very next day and stayed with them at Elton’s mansion in Beverly Hills. [He later] went on to tour with Elton John in 1974…thus opening the door to work with Queen during their very first U.S. Tour.’
