Description

Four partly-printed DSs, signed "Louis Armstrong," "Jack Weldon Teagarden," "Albany Leon Bigard," and "Earl Kenneth Hines," each one page, 5.75 x 4, circa October 1949. Four Swedish arrival cards filled out in other hands and signed by Louis Armstrong and members of his band, indicating their last names, first names, birth dates, professions (Armstrong is listed as a "Maestro," while his bandmates are each described as "Musician"), and object of their sojourn: "Concert." In fine condition. Each card has been encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services.

Louis Armstrong visited Scandinavia no less than nine times throughout his illustrious career. His trip to Sweden in the fall of 1949 came as part of the European leg of a concert tour with his All-Stars, which included trombonist Jack Teagarden, clarinetist Barney Bigard, and pianist Earl 'Fatha' Hines. Their performances were met with great enthusiasm from Swedish audiences, contributing to the growth of jazz's popularity in Europe and helping to solidify Armstrong's status as a global ambassador for the genre.
