Description

Bond of the State of California in the amount of $1000, one page, 11.5 x 6.25, July 16, 1860, signed on the front by the treasurer and controller, and signed on the reverse in ink by Governor John G. Downey. The certificate is headed "Bond of the State of California for War Indebtedness, in conformity with an Act Authorizing the Treasurer of State to issue Bonds for the payment of expenses incurred in the suppression of Indian Hostilities, in certain counties in this State." Impressively cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 23 x 24, with a window in the backing for viewing the reverse. In fine condition.
