Description

Soldier and merchant (1756–1843) who took part in the Battle of Trenton, served as personal secretary to President George Washington in Philadelphia, and was the father of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, the co-founder of the famous school for the deaf. Manuscript DS, one page, 8.5 x 5.25, May 11, 1787. Receipt for a "Loan Certificate of the State of Pennsyl'a for 281.5.11…which is deposited with me for the faithful redemption of a Note of hand for 150 Dollars given by George Morton to me payable Four Months after Date." Signed at the conclusion in ink by Peter W. Gallaudet. Nicely mounted, cloth-matted, and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 25.75 x 21.5. In fine condition.
