Description

Two-term U.S. Representative (1816-1906) who later became a multimillionaire financier, credited with originating the system of 'puts and calls' in the buying and selling of stock. Two ALSs signed "Russell Sage," each one page, 7.5 x 9.25, May 16, 1847, and May 31, 1855. The first, to Gilbert Bradley in Sunderland, New Jersey, informing him, in part: "I enclosed the money with the account." The second, to Secretary of the Navy James C. Dobbin, in part: "I believe there is a vacancy from this Congressional district, to the Naval School at Annapolis, if so, I recommend and nominate Jonathan Davis of this place as a suitable boy for the appointment." Nicely cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 14.75 x 29.5. In overall fine condition, with light creases.
