Description

American religious leader who served as the seventh president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1856–1945). Two TLSs by the Mormon leader, both signed in pencil, "Heber J. Grant," each one page, 8.5 x 11, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints letterhead, dated January 15, 1935 and August 22, 1938. The first, in part: "I am giving myself the pleasure of sending to you a copy of Mr. Ivins' book 'Mormonism and Freemasonry.' Mr. Ivins was my cousin, our mothers being sisters, and he was also one of my counselors. We were more like brothers all our lives than cousins. I am also sending you and your associates, Mr. Mellinkoff and Mr. Rogers, a copy of a pamphlet telling the story of the struggles of a pioneer woman. I ordered a thousand copies of this pamphlet for Christmas, but as they came from South Africa it was Christmas eve when they arrived, and it will be several months before I can distribute them all." The second, in part: "It will be a real pleasure to send you a copy of the Book of Mormon. I certainly do not want you to pay for it, and I shall be very happy to inscribe the book for you." The letters are impressively cloth-matted and framed together with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 40 x 25. In fine condition.
