Large section of Prince's stage-worn black scarf from his 'secret show' at Bogart's in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 23, 1984, during the iconic 'Purple Rain' era. The scarf segment measures approximately 25˝ long by 7˝ wide, and was tossed into the adoring crowd at the end of the show—where it was ripped to shreds by screaming fans, fighting over a relic worn by their idol. In fine condition, with fraying and small tears to either end.
Accompanied by a handwritten letter of provenance from the fan who caught the scarf, in full: "In 1984 I was working in Middletown, Ohio. One of my closest friends was a student at a college in Cincinnati, Ohio. We heard a promo on the radio about this 'Hot-Red and Blue' band coming to play at Bogart's in Cincinnati. My friend was convinced it would be Prince. Red + Blue = Purple. Purple - Purple Rain - Prince. When we got there, we didn't know what to expect. Everyone was in shock and ecstatic when Prince appeared and began playing! There were a lot of screams and tears everywhere! My friend and I were standing on the floor, close to the middle of the stage. Toward the end of the concert, Prince grabbed his long, black silk scarf from his neck, and threw it off the front of the stage, into a swarm of fans. I, along with several other fans, grabbed and held on! It began tearing into pieces. I held onto my piece, as others held onto theirs. I ended up with a 2 foot piece of his scarf. It has been one of my prize possessions. (It also had the best scent/cologne for months!)."
