The second-gen iPod Nano was introduced on September 25, 2006, improving upon screen brightness, battery life, storage capacity, audio playback, and search functions. On October 13, 2006, Apple announced a special edition iPod Nano: Product Red, with a red anodized exterior and 4GB storage capacity. For each red iPod Nano sold in the United States, Apple donated $10 to the Product Red initiative—an organization raising funds to help eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa—while retaining the regular price. On November 3, 2006, due to outstanding customer demand, Apple introduced this red 8GB model.
