Description

Travel memo for Clifton Williams's last trip—recording his ill-fated "arrival" at Tallahassee on October 5, 1967

Poignant Manned Spacecraft Center "Travel Memorandum" worksheet, with the upper section filled out and signed by future Skylab astronaut Jerry Carr, "Prepared by Maj. G. P. Carr, USMC," one page, 8 x 10.5, October 11, 1967. Carr fills out the dates, times, and modes of transportation for Clifton Williams's ill-fated final travels between Ellington, Cape Kennedy, and Peconic, New York, noting most modes of transportation as "Gov't Air." The final "arrival" destination on October 5th is listed as "Tallahassee," where a mechanical failure caused Williams to lose control of his T-38 jet trainer and crash into a grove of pine trees; although Williams ejected at an altitude of 1,500 feet, the aircraft was traveling too fast and too low for the seat to land safely. An Air Force spokesman reported: 'The plane disintegrated and the body disintegrated with it.' In fine condition, with a small tear toward the top edge. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from Zarelli Space Authentication.
