Rare full issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper from Monday, April 17, 1865, two days after the death of American President Abraham Lincoln. The newspaper, eight pages, 13.5 x 20.5, features the scarce masthead “The Nation Mourns Its Loss,” with the left side of the front page containing bolded headlines for the wide variety of articles and briefs found on the first and last pages of the newspaper, all related to the assassination and Andrew Johnson’s subsequent inauguration as president. The front page also prominently shows a large artistic portrait of “J. Wilkes Booth, The Assassin,” above an overhead map of the streets around Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. In fine condition, with vertical and horizontal folds and light wear and toning to edges. A scarce full issue that marked the first printed likeness of John Wilkes Booth as the assassin.
