Complete issue of The National Intelligencer and Washington Advertiser from February 11, 1801, four pages, 10 x 17, reporting on the results of the 1800 presidential election, which had been held from October 31 to December 3, 1800. The first column is headed, "Virginia Election," and reports on "the votes given in Virginia for electors of a President and Vice President," stating that it appears as though 21,198 votes were cast for the Jefferson ticket, to a mere 6,137 for the Adams ticket. It goes on to give the totals on a district by district basis. Additionally, a column inside is headlined "Election of a President," and reports: "This day at 12 o'clock the house of Representatives repaired to the Senate chamber, where the votes for President and Vice-President were counted," and documents the initial balloting in the 'contingent election' that would determine whether Jefferson or Burr would become president. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, small binding slits along the left edge, and a "Tennessee Historical Society" ink stamp to upper right corner.
