Four ink signatures of notable American scientists or scientists on off-white sheets ranging in size from 5 x 3 to 6 x 7, including: Ernest Lawrence (1901-1958), a nuclear physicist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1939 for his invention of the cyclotron; Karl Menninger (1893-1990), a psychiatrist and a member of the Menninger family of psychiatrists who founded the Menninger Foundation and the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas; Robert Andrews Millikan (1868-1953), an experimental physicist who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1923 for the measurement of the elementary electric charge and for his work on the photoelectric effect; and Oswald Veblen (1880-1960), a mathematician, geometer, and topologist, whose work found application in atomic physics and the theory of relativity.
