Tom Stafford’s flown gold-plated Gemini 6 Fliteline medallion, approximately 1″ diameter, with a raised design of the 'Castor and Pollux' mission insignia on the front, and the reverse engraved: "GT-GT-6, December 15-16, 1965." Condition is mint state, with slight wear to rim. Includes the original Fliteline case. A highly desirable flown medallion given that of the few examples that traveled with Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford on the Gemini 6 mission—which achieved the first manned rendezvous with another spacecraft, its sister Gemini 7 capsule—only 10 were gold-plated, with the balance minted in silver.
Accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity from Stafford, who states that “this Gemini 6A (GTA-6) Flightline Medallion was flown into Earth orbit in December 1965 on the Gemini 6A Spaceflight…[and] is one of the objects that we carried into Earth orbit during our mission on Gemini 6A (GTA-6) from December 15th to 16th 1965. Wally and I performed the 1st manned rendezvous between two spacecraft when we converged on the Gemini 7 spacecraft carrying Frank Borman and Jim Lovell who were waiting for us in Earth orbit. During the Gemini Program, NASA's policy allowed astronauts to bring personal mementos and, accordingly, I chose to take this medallion with me on this mission. This Flightline medallion has remained a treasured part of my personal space collection for more than 57 years, ever since NASA presented it back to me in 1965, shortly after my return to Earth.”
