Description

Desirable 2.75″ length of the original rope utilized to bind the crate used by Harry Houdini in his infamous 'Packing Crate' escape illusion of the early 1900s. Mounted, matted, and framed with an image of the crate, two printed facsimiles of Houdini autographs, a photo of him on the deck of a ship, and a certificate of authenticity from the National Historical Mint to an overall size of 15.5 x 20.5. In fine condition.

Houdini's great 'packing crate' trick combined a number of his talents in an apparent escape from handcuffs in a confined space while underwater. In the illusion, Houdini would be shackled and packed into a wooden shipping crate, which was nailed shut and secured by ropes and chains. The impenetrable box would be thrown into a river to sink. After what felt like an eternity, Houdini would bob to the surface—unharmed and free of the box and handcuffs.
