Description

Unique ancient-styled sitar prop from Prince’s Gett Off video series (released as a 30-minute compilation of five videos) that was directed by Randee St. Nicholas. Crafted primarily from painted styrofoam with wooden accents and metal strings, the piece was created by the design firm owned by Sotera Tschetter, who was doing the majority of Prince's various design and prop design projects during this period in the early 1990s. She also created his iconic symbol design. In good to very good condition, with overall wear, and several dings and cracks to the rear and neck. Accompanied by a brand-new shrinkwrapped VHS tape of the 'Gett Off' video collection, featuring the 'Gett Off,' 'Gett Off (Housestyle),' 'Violet the Organ Grinder,' 'Ganster Glam,' and 'Clockin' the Jizz' videos directed by Randee St. Nicholas.

Prince's former co-manager Jill Willis recalls: "Sotera was walking down the hall with Prince one afternoon, just outside of my office, during the production of the Gett Off videos being shot in the soundstage.  She had this instrument in her hand and I commented, 'Ooh, a sitar. That's so pretty.' And she said, 'Do you want it? It's cracked' (the neck was cracked).  I said 'yes, I'll take it. I love it.'"
