Description

Rare, early Allman Bros. demos from the Capricorn Records warehouse

Remarkable collection of nine demo tapes originating from the Capricorn Records warehouse once owned by Phil Walden, co-founder of the independent label based in Macon, Georgia. Capricorn Records is often credited by music historians as creating the southern rock genre, with the Allman Brothers Band as its leading group. These tapes represent various iterations of the band, including the Allman Joys (led by Duane Allman and Gregg Allman), the Almost Bros. (their old roadies recordings), and the Allman Bros.

Each tape is housed in its original box, with descriptive labels affixed on the covers. The recordings are labeled:

1. "2tr Stereo Master - The Allman Bros.," dated November 8, 1971, listing seven tracks: "Dr. Fonebone," "Feel So Bad," "Changing of the Guard," "Gotta Get Away," "The Forest for the Trees," "Take the Hand of Mind," and "Northern Boundary."

2. "Allman Joys," dated March 22, 1972, listing twelve tracks, highlighted by "Spoonful," "Break My Mind," "You'll Learn Someday," "Bell-Bottom Blues," "Gotta Get Away," and "Ole Man River."

3. "Allman Joys," with five cuts listed: "Gotta Get Away," "Oh John," "Street Singer," "You'll Learn Someday," and "Ole Man River."

4. "Allman Joys," with two tracks listed: "Time Is On My Side" and "Northern Boundary."

5. "The Goodies," featuring Delaney & Bonnie with Gregg Allman, Duane Allman, and King Curtis live at A&R Studios, July 22, 1971.

6. "Bob Keller Demos - Wife" - Keller played bass for the Allman Joys.

7. "Almost Bros.," marked "Side I, 2tr copy for B master w/ Dolbys," listing five tracks: "Glitter Queen," "Keep You Around," "It's So Hard," "Goin' Down," and "Feel the Pain."

8. "Almost Bros.," listing four tracks: "Mod. Motion," "Love Me," "Joe," and "Fever."

9. "Almost Bros.," listing one track: "Wang Dang Doodle."

In overall very good to fine condition. A hugely desirable lot of Allman Brothers Band-related material, originating from their famous label.
