Description

Rare original 5.5 x 3.5 postcard imprinted on one side with the address of the national headquarters for the march, "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, 170 West 130th Street, New York 27, New York," and on the other with a patriotic pledge, in part: "Standing before the Lincoln Memorial on the 28th of August. in the Centennial Year of Emancipation, I affirm my complete personal commitment to the struggle for Jobs and Freedom for all Americans. To fulfill that commitment, I pledge that I will not relax until victory is won." In very good to fine condition, with scattered rust stains and a central vertical fold.

These postcards were handed out to attendees at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963—most were either mailed in or discarded, making this surviving example quite scarce. The consignor notes that it was brought home by his brother, who attended the march in person.
