Scarce 12″ vinyl test pressing of Apollonia’s single “Since I Fell For You” (Warner Bros/0-20855-8-SR1) from Specialty Records Corporation. The original version of “Since I Fell For You” was included on the self-titled 1988 album “Apollonia” (it was the first of three commercial singles released from the album). Three versions of this song (and an additional “B-Side” song) are included on this test pressing: “Since I Fell For You (Toppled Heart Mix),” “Since I Fell For You (Crush Mix),” “Since I Fell For You (Freestyle Mix),” and “These Boots are Made for Walking.” The test pressing features a white label with the artist’s name, catalogue numbers, and a white sleeve, which is typical of a test pressing. The white sleeve has “Test Pressing Apollonia” written on it in black pen. The vinyl appears to be in un-played condition.
Test pressings are manufactured in very limited quantities (often fewer than 25 copies) for the purpose of listening to materials being considered for commercial release or for evaluating the quality of a finished product. They are usually the first discs made from production stampers and sound better than commercially available vinyl. Often the song content of a test pressing mirrors that of a commercial vinyl release.
Apollonia Kotero is one of the more famous Prince protégés, given that she starred as Prince’s love interest in the Oscar-winning film 'Purple Rain.' In the film, she performed the song 'Sex Shooter.' In addition to 'Purple Rain,' Apollonia starred in five films, as a television actor (with a leading role in 'Falcon Crest'), and with musicians such as Ray Parker, Jr. and Eddie Money. Despite a variety of artistic contributions, Apollonia continues to be most closely associated with Prince.
