Attractive winner's medal issued for the 1930 British Empire Games—the inaugural edition of what now is known as the Commonwealth Games—held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, from August 16-22, 1930. Gold filled, 53 mm x 54 mm, 81 gm. The front shows the allegorical Britannia holding an enameled Union Jack shield, standing on a globe with the flags of competing nations, with "British Empire Games" overhead; the reverse features a lion and is inscribed with the name of the winner: "Awarded to Geo. Wright, Lawn Bowling Winning Pairs, Hamilton, Canada, 1930." Stamped "Gold Filled" on the edge.
