Description

Leather "Mondo Bizarro" biker jacket owned by Johnny Ramone

Johnny Ramone’s personally-owned black leather motorcycle jacket, which was produced as a special promotional item in honor of the Ramones’ 12th studio album, Mondo Bizarro, and their move from Sire Records to Radioactive Records in 1992. The jacket, size 46, features snap-down lapels, shoulder epaulets, zippered sleeve cuffs and side pockets, attached belt with rectangle buckle, and a small coin flap pocket. The back of the jacket bears three embroidered patches, “RAMONES” and “MONDO BIZARRO,” and a central Ramones ‘presidential seal’ logo, and the left shoulder bears a Radioactive Records patch. The inner collar retains the original Bloomerz Inc. label. In fine condition.

Gore affirms that Johnny Ramone sent him this jacket shortly after the release of Mondo Bizarro, noting that the album was the first to feature new bass player CJ Ramone after the departure of Dee Dee Ramone. As such, CJ’s name is present on the back patch, but due to a design decision, CJ's name was spelled “C. JAY” so as to fit properly with the names of the other band members. ‘Due to the expense to manufacture a promotional jacket of this quality, not many were produced and the ones that were given out usually went to important people at the label and, of course, the band!’
