Iconic pair of blue jeans worn on stage by punk legend Johnny Ramone
Johnny Ramone’s personally-owned and stage-worn Levi Strauss & Co. blue jeans, no size (waist tag too faded), which Ramone shipped to his friend, Andy Gore, to have cut up into several swatches intended to be placed inside his Official Johnny Ramone Snow Globes. However, when the moment arrived for Gore to cut into the jeans, he balked. He simply couldn’t deface stage-worn jeans worn by Johnny Ramone. Included with the jeans is a color 8.5 x 11 snow globe graphic sheet, which contains three authenticity sections signed in blue ballpoint by Johnny Ramone, who affirms: “Below Is An Authentic Piece of My Stage Worn Blue Jeans!” In fine condition, with expected wear from use.
During their 20-year friendship, Johnny Ramone and Andy Gore teamed up to design numerous promotional Ramones products. One of which was an official Johnny Ramone snow globe that would use a swatch of the punk rocker’s stage-worn jeans to serve as its centerpiece. After procuring the jeans and the requisite snow globe graphics, each signed and authenticated by Ramone, Gore was ready to finish the project. Or so he thought. ‘I could not bring myself to take a pair of scissors and cut up Johnny Ramone's stage-worn blue jeans. I couldn't bring myself to destroy a piece of rock n’ roll history. I felt like it was desecrating his legacy.’ Gore broke the news to Ramone, and the pair decided to use guitar picks instead of cut-up jeans. A familiar famous friend stood behind Gore's creative choice: ‘My decision was supported by Rob Zombie, a very close friend of John’s, who told me that he wholeheartedly agreed and that I did the right thing by not cutting up Johnny's jeans.’
