Three small segments of film attested to as being carried into lunar orbit during the Apollo 13 mission and deriving from the personal collection of NASA technician Richard Underwood, who worked in the Johnson Space Center’s Photographic Technology Laboratory for over two decades. The swatches, ranging in size from .5″ x .25″ to .75″ x .25″, are affixed to an 8.5 x 11 certificate numbers 10/30 and signed by Sandy Clarkson, who notes: “The film leaders and tails that Underwood ‘salvaged’ 50 years ago were recently rediscovered among his photographic artifacts and are presented here. The affixed film segments vary in color due to their age and less than ideal storage.” He also states: “The film segments on this certificate are from 3 film magazines that were used to document the Apollo 13 mission including the serious damage to the service module, the improvised adaptation of the LiOH canister in the LM, the flyby of the moon, and jettisoning of the Lunar Module.” In fine condition. Underwood was responsible for developing the Apollo photographs—in fact, he was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and the first 23 space shuttle missions.
