Maine-born Union major general (1828-1914) who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg. Partly-printed DS, signed “J. L. Chamberlain,” one page, 5 x 7.5, July 1, 1874. Official Bowdoin College document, in full: "Be it known, that E. M. Cousins a member of the Freshman Class, having passed a satisfactory examination before the Faculty and a Committee of the Trustees and Overseers, is adjudged to be qualified to join the Sophomore Class at the next Commencement." In fine condition, with several horizontal folds. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
