Rare photo album entitled "Old Mexico: 1893" by Chicago photographers Charles Mayo and J. E. Weed, 15.25 x 11.25, containing 185 original vintage albumen photographs taken throughout Mexico at the end of the 19th century. The two photographers had been sent there on assignment by Grafton's Tours. Their images portray the landmarks, people, and places they observed during their travels, including views from Leon, Guadalajara, Alameda, Guadalupe, and elsewhere. A couple of the most interesting images are of ancient Aztec idols. In good to very good condition, with both boards broken off (but present) and spine leather missing.

Joel Davis Madden, Jr., left Princeton University in 1905 and moved west to make his fortune in the railroad industry. He went on to become an executive with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and died suddenly in 1928 at the age of 41. His book collection, offered by his granddaughter, has not been publicly offered or privately sold in a century.
