Description

Compendium of five NASA/MSFC documents on the Saturn V S-IC stage engine systems, all of which were official office copies from divisions within the MSFC Propulsion Systems Department. The documents refer specifically to the Saturn V S-1C stage fuel and pressurization systems and include seldom-encountered detailed descriptive illustrations of those systems. Although some are labeled as preliminary, these manuals were prepared specifically for the flight of Apollo 6 (AS-502) in April of 1968. After much Saturn V engine complication, this mission paved the way for the flight of Apollo 8. The documents include:

A 32-page illustrated manual entitled “S-IC-STAGE ENGINE SYSTEM,” October 4, 1968, prepared by the Boeing Company for the MSFC Systems Engineering Office, containing a detailed treatment of main engine systems in briefing format.

A 34-page illustrated manual entitled “S-1C STAGE PRESSURIZATION PURGE & PNEUMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM,” April 17, 1969, prepared by the Boeing Company for the MSFC Systems Engineering Office.

A 45-page extensively illustrated manual entitled “PROPULSION CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION FOR S-IC STAGE SA-502,” [Apollo 6], stamped “Preliminary,” February 17, 1968, apparently prepared internally at MSFC by Rocketdyne, and containing several foldable extended charts, including a very large schematic of the S-IC Stage propulsion control system.

A 34-page “Preliminary” manual entitled “INDEX OF MEASUREMENT FIND NUMBERS FOR PROPULSION CONTROL SYSTEM SCHEMATIC, S-IC-STAGE, SA-502,” February 12, 1968.

A 23-page manual entitled “INDEX OF MEASUREMENT FIND NUMBERS FOR PROPULSION INSTRUMENTATION SCHEMATIC S-IC STAGE OF SA-502,” February 7, 1968, marked “FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY,” and featuring a large schematic at the conclusion. All are presented in a modern three-ring binder. In overall fine condition.
