American lawyer and politician (1833-1911) who served as an associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court; his role as the lone dissenter in the Civil Rights Cases (1883) and Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) led to his nickname of 'The Great Dissenter.' Ink signature, "Yrs truly, John M. Harlan, Justice Sup. Ct. U.S.,” on an off-white 5 x 2.25 sheet. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "GEM MT 10."
